Spain’s latest air passenger figures warrant a closer look at the late season. How should you adjust cleaning, availability and property preparation?

New figures published by Turespaña on October 19, 2026 show that Spain welcomed around 11.5 million international air passengers in September, up 5.1% on the previous year. Growth varies by region: +10.3% in the Valencian Community and +10.2% in Andalusia, while the Canary Islands recorded a decline. These arrivals include both residents and non-residents, so they do not all represent tourists, let alone vacation rental bookings. For a property manager, this news nevertheless raises a useful question: do the arrangements planned for after the summer still reflect actual activity at the properties? A calendar with fewer bookings can still include several very busy days.

### Look at departures, not just occupancy rates

Two apartments booked for the same number of nights can require very different amounts of preparation. One hosts a two-week stay. The other has several short bookings back to back. To organize cleaning, you need to count guest changeovers and look at how they are spread out.

Review the next two weeks, property by property. Identify departures followed by a same-day arrival, staff availability and any access restrictions. Add any work or checks already scheduled. This practical overview will help you decide whether to keep, reschedule or provide extra support for a job.

National statistics provide context. Your work schedule is built around confirmed bookings.

### Maintain suitable capacity in each area

The end of summer may change your service providers’ availability. Before promising an early arrival or accepting several departures close together, check who can attend, at what time and in which area.

This check must take travel time into account. Three properties close to one another can be easier to prepare than two properties far apart, even if their floor areas are comparable. The property’s usual condition, the number of sleeping spaces and the tasks required also matter.

With StayClean, preparation starts with the cleaning jobs you schedule. Tracking them then helps distinguish what is planned from what has actually been completed. This visibility is particularly useful when several service providers share a portfolio of properties. [Discover StayClean.](<https://www.stayclean.io/>)

### Use unbooked nights to take care of the details

A day without guests can be used to check equipment, replace a worn item or carry out a deeper clean. You still need to set aside enough time and specify the scope of the job.

Avoid adding a long list of tasks at the last minute to a clean already scheduled between two stays. A free window of a few hours does not provide the same leeway as a full day. Specify what falls within cleaning and what requires another professional, then check that the property can be made available again in time.

For linen, compare available stock with the next guest changeovers. An apartment being temporarily unoccupied does not mean the linen needed for the following weekend is already ready.

### A simple example: the Friday when everything happens at once

Imagine six properties with moderate occupancy during the week, but four departures on Friday morning and four arrivals that afternoon. The weekly average may look manageable. Yet the challenge is concentrated within just a few hours.

Organizing the work then means confirming access, scheduling each clean, checking availability and identifying properties that need some buffer time. In StayClean, job tracking and the available reports give the manager information to check on preparation. The decision to confirm to guests that the property is ready remains based on the situation actually observed.

### The checks to make this week

- Count same-day departures and arrivals for each property.

- Confirm the availability of the professionals involved.

- Check access and the instructions specific to each property.

- Prepare linen according to upcoming stays.

- Schedule tasks that go beyond routine cleaning separately.

- Review feedback from completed jobs before considering a property ready.

Spain’s figures are a reminder that tourism activity can remain strong after August, with significant differences between areas. For your rentals, the right response is to organize work around actual stays. StayClean helps you schedule and track the cleaning jobs that make welcoming those guests possible.
