A business traveller opens their laptop to prepare for a meeting. There is a desk, but the lamp does not light its surface, the socket is out of reach and the chair wobbles. The listing promised a workspace; a few practical checks could have clarified what it actually offers. On 14 October, Atout France reported 27 French professionals participating in IMEX America 2026, with over 650 business appointments scheduled. These commercial appointments are not accommodation bookings and do not demonstrate an increase in business stays in your city. For managers hoping to welcome these guests, here is a practical approach: check what someone can actually do in the property, then describe that reality without embellishment. ### Sit down before taking photographs Put yourself in the guest’s seat. Is the surface stable, clear and deep enough for a laptop and some notes? Is there enough legroom under the furniture? Is the chair steady, and can someone sit without an obviously uncomfortable posture? An attractive console table or stool may suit occasional use without providing a suitable workstation for a full day. Describe the furniture that is there and avoid calling it “ergonomic” unless you can justify that description. The photograph should show the setup actually available, not accessories removed after the shoot. ### Check the lighting and power sockets Switch on the lamp, check where its light falls and make sure the switch remains accessible. During the day, look for troublesome glare from the window. If blinds or curtains are listed, make sure they work. Identify sockets that can be used from the desk without moving heavy furniture or running a cable across a walkway. Damaged electrical equipment must be reported and dealt with by a competent person, rather than patched up on the spot. Photograph issues so the manager can decide what to do next. ### Test the connection where guests will work Having a router is not enough to describe the experience at the desk. Run a test from that location, using a device connected to the network provided for guests. Record the date, time and test conditions, including whether other devices are using the connection. Keep useful results, including download and upload speeds, without turning them into a permanent guarantee. A trial video call can complement the check. Clearly disclose a shared network, areas with poor reception or any usage limit. Do not promise a backup connection that is not genuinely available. ### Describe the noise conditions precisely Listen for a few minutes from the workstation. A street-facing window, known building work or a shared room can matter to someone making back-to-back calls. An observation at one moment cannot guarantee silence throughout the day. Explain whether the workspace is in a separate bedroom, the living room or a thoroughfare. Also check every listed item: monitor, cable, adapter or extra lamp. Anything missing must either be removed from the description or made available again before you continue promising it. ### Organise a simple check A short checklist is enough: stable furniture, working lighting, accessible sockets, a dated connection test, equipment present and known limitations.
